Lone Ranger Issue No. 0
What could be better than having a new Lone Ranger comic book? How about
one for free! That's what fans got May 5, 2007, on Free Comic Book Day.
Dynamite Entertainment's Lone Ranger #0 is eight pages of fun centered
around the Lone Ranger Creed. The Ranger narrates the Creed while he and
Tonto chase a bad guy who holes up in a one-room schoolhouse, taking the
teacher captive. It's up to the Lone Ranger to come rescue to teacher and her
students in the nick of time. (Scroll to the bottom for more.)
Lone Ranger Issue No. 7
Six months after the events in issue #6 finds
Linda and Dan Jr. relocated to Texas. The story
begins with Dan getting honey from a hive he
found. In town, two men walk through the rain to
the BC Rail office and enter to find the Lone
Ranger inside taking some papers. He escapes
with Tonto's help in a short shoot-out. We then
have Linda visiting John inside his cavernous
silver mine. Linda says Dan would like to see
more of him, as would she, but without the mask.
After she leaves, John takes off the mask but
puts it back on. He rides out on Silver and blows
up one of Cavendish's trains. Word reaches
Cavendish as he is meeting with a senator who
appears to be grooming him for politics. The
Ranger joins Tonto, Linda and Dan as they begin
to build a house. He surprises Tonto by telling
him that it's his. That evening they all gather at
Linda's for dinner. Just as John is about to
remove his mask, a bullet is shot through the
window and they duck for cover. The Ranger and
Tonto ride off and come upon a scene where a
man is about to be hung.
Lone Ranger Issue No. 8
Issue No. 8 begins with our heroes breaking up the lynching and driving off the lynch mob, but not before
finding out they wanted to hang the man, a Mexican, for murder. Rather than untie him, the Ranger leaves
Tonto to guard him while he rides into town to check out the mob’s story.
Meanwhile, Cavendish’s accountant adds up the losses the Ranger has inflicted. He informs Cavendish
that he is basically broke. The news costs him his life.
The Ranger breaks into the undertaker’s office and finds the body in question, but learns he was not killed
the way the mob said. The Ranger then breaks into some stores, takes what he needs and leaves behind a
lump of silver to pay for it. He returns to Tonto and as they’re talking Linda appears with a bag of food. The
Ranger yells at her to leave, she drops the bag and goes. Immediately the Ranger realizes his mistake.
The mob re-arms and regroups to go after the Lone Ranger and Tonto while the Ranger retreats to his
cave and practices shooting as a side of beef. Linda interrupts him and they talk about missing Dan. Reid
cuts her off and heads back to Tonto. He puts the man on the back of Silver and cuts him free while asking
his name in Spanish. He says his name is Rafael. The Ranger mounts up and says, “Let’s ride.”
Lone Ranger Issue No. 9
The Lone Ranger and Tonto are racing south with Rafael riding behind the Ranger. The Ranger disarms
a lookout. Meanwhile, Butch Cavendish and the Senator are entertaining guests and making small talk.
Cavendish excuses himself from the table, goes into the washroom and punches the mirror. Back to the
Ranger, this time Tonto takes out the next lookout. Cavendish returns to the table, insults the Senator and
his guests, threatens the Senator and takes his wallet before leaving.
We next encounter the Lone Ranger roping a man while Tonto fights another. Silver rears up and the
Ranger loses Rafael and one of his guns. After the Lone Ranger and Tonto subdue the men, Rafael
returns the gun. Cavendish goes to a saloon, tosses a drink in the face of a big man and gets tossed out.
He comes back to the swinging doors and says "All right cowboy, I'm back."
Someone watches through binoculars as another guard is captured and tied. Using a clever plan, the
Lone Ranger and Tonto arrive at Rafael's place and capture the last man, only to find out he was nothing
more than a farmer, who admits he made a mistake. The Ranger takes the man's gun and identifies it as
the same weapon that killed Rafael's friend. While the rancher and the Ranger talk, Rafael draws a hidden
gun and shoots the rancher in the head. He then pulls the gun on Tonto, but the Ranger jumps in front of
the bullet and gets shot in the chest. Tonto is left holding the wounded Ranger as Rafael escapes.
Lone Ranger Issue No. 10
Tonto checks on the wounded Lone Ranger and, though obviously hurting, the Ranger says he'll be
OK and urges Tonto to get Rafael -- alive. Tonto chases him down and captures him, getting shot in the
hand in the process. The Lone Ranger wakes up in his cave where Tonto and Linda treat his wound,
which turns out to be a graze. The Lone Ranger goes to where Rafael is tied up and confronts him. He
discovers that his young captive is a murderer. He takes Rafael to the sheriff and leave him with the
lawman, along with a body and the evidence needed to convict him.
In the meantime, Butch Cavendish discovers that his former assistant has empties his bank account.
We leave off with him purchasing a train ticket to Texas.
